Located in the West end of Ottawa, Hillel Lodge has served as a home for individuals in need of long-term personal care since it officially opened its doors in 1965. With a current complement of 121 beds and housed within a thriving 13-acre Jewish Community Campus, we provide a wide range of programming and events to meet the diverse needs of our residents, their families and the larger community which we serve.

Based on our own guiding principles as well as the Torah commandment to honour thy father and mother, our residents are the most important focus of our attention and ongoing efforts. The services provided to our residents are organized to offer options and opportunities to address each resident’s physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs, including end-of-life care.
Position Overview:
The Director of Care is responsible for providing leadership, coaching and guidance to assist the staff of the Long-Term Care Home in the performance of their duties. Ensuring all service is provided in accordance with the Ministry of Long-Term Care Standards, the Lodge’s mission, vision, values, policies and procedures and evidence-based practice.
Qualifications:
- RN registration with a current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario with a Baccalaureate degree.
- Diploma in Long Term Care Administration (Canadian Health Care Association) or Administrator certificate is an asset.
- Masters preferred (Nursing, Health Administration or Business), or applicable experience and knowledge, is an asset.
- A minimum of 3-5 years progressive leadership and management responsibility, which includes supervisory experience in a long-term care facility
- Experience in complex continuing care.
- Broad exposure to Mental Health care issues in long-term care
- Demonstrate a transformative, innovative, inspirational and servant leadership style.
- Demonstrated leadership and communication skills, people management, and ability to build a team and culture of quality improvement, resident safety, and risk management.
- Exhibited professional, respectful, and culturally sensitive behaviour for working with residents, their families, and members of the interdisciplinary team
- Knowledgeable in the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, S.O. 2021, c. 39, Sched. 1, Ontario Regulation 246/22, Occupational Health, and Safety Act and the CARF Accreditation Process (preferred).
- Available and able to act as the weekend Supervisor on a rotational basis based on operational need and can be called off-hours in urgent and emergency situations.
- Ability to utilize data (for example, Quality Reporting System Indicators, and MDS data, etc.) to make informed decisions and to improve care and services provided to residents.
