Position Summary:

The Wildlife Program Manager ensures DRFN’s interests, values, concerns, and treaty rights are incorporated into wildlife initiatives that occur in DRFN’s territory. The overall goal is to have wildlife management grounded in DRFN culture and traditional knowledge, guided by principals of ecosystem-based management, superior stewardship and collaborative planning that sustains the practice of rights and culture by DRFN membership indefinitely on their lands.

The Wildlife Program Manager provides professional, general, and strategic advice to DRFN’s Lands and Resources Manager and Lands staff regarding wildlife plans, projects and initiatives. Further, the Coordinator is the primary point of contact for, and will respond to all referrals related to wildlife and wildlife management within DRFN territory, initiates wildlife projects and programs and represents the Nation at a variety of working groups and forums.

Additionally, the Wildlife Program Manager works with DRFN’s Economic Development Manager and the Lands and Resources Manager, to identify wildlife related opportunities for DRFN members and companies. As part of the DRFN Lands department, the Wildlife Management Coordinator collaborates with a diverse project team of staff and multidisciplinary consultants. They are also responsible for project management and delivery of Nation-led, values-based initiatives from origination to conclusion.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Wildlife Biology, Wildlife Conservation, Wildlife Management or a related life sciences degree)
  • Significant experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project or initiative.
  • Demonstrated expertise in distilling and communicating complex natural resource information to laypersons.
  •  Demonstrated experience in managing multi-disciplinary projects in which innovative solutions were implemented to solve a unique or complex natural resource management problem.
  •  Demonstrated experience in a multiple partners environment understanding perspectives, conflicts, and facilitating/developing solutions.
  • Recent training and/or current experience in the use of GIS applications to communicate complex geospatial information.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Open Source and/or ArcGIS platforms, and associated field data capture software.
  • Knowledge of Doig River First Nation and Indigenous culture.

 Compensation:

  • A competitive starting salary range: $95,000 – $110,000 per year

  • 2 weeks vacation and 6 weeks of scheduled office closures per year
