Registered Nurse (RN), Long Term Care, Full Time Evening and Part Time Evening and Night Shifts Available
Location:Toronto, Ontario
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director of Care, the Registered Nurse (RN) will enhance the effective management and quality of nursing practice in keeping with the Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, and the home’s policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures resident care is provided with established nursing standards and principles, physicians’ orders and administrative policies, as well as observes, reports and records vital signs, symptoms and conditions of residents, and initiates remedial health measures where appropriate. Assures observance of required techniques in nursing care.
- Assesses residents and develops, implements, reviews and evaluates resident plans of care.
- Monitors residents’ health, notes changes in condition and assesses need for referral to doctors, physiotherapy and other allied health providers; processes and implements physicians’ orders.
- Plans, directs, supervises and evaluates the work of Registered Practical Nurses and personal care staff assigned to the unit.
- Monitors performance and contributes to/conducts performance appraisals and refers concerns to the Director of Care.
- Models positive working relationships with employees.
- Actively participates in the education program by adhering to training requirements outlined by the home.
- Oversees and functions as a supervisor for the building in the absence of the Director of Care/Assistant Director of Care.
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to achieve positive resident outcomes.
- Effectively participates in conferences with the interdisciplinary team.
- Contributes to positive customer services with residents, families/Substitute Decision Makers (SDMs) and visitors in day to day work.
- Complies with the legislative, regulatory and internal responsibilities as set forth in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including health and safety, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Workplace Violence, Fitness for Duty etc.
- Advises supervisor/designate immediately of all staff incidents that may result in an Occupational Accident Claim, any concerns with the physical plant, incidents or injuries and completes required forms.
- Participates in all aspects of Quality and Risk Management as it applies to the nursing area.
- Participates in the collection of clinical indicators in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Contributes to the development of recommendations for corrective actions to improve residents’ quality of life and reduce/mitigate risk.
Qualifications:
- Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Gerontology Certificate preferred.
- Knowledge and expertise in Resident Assessment Instrument-Minimum Data Set (RAI-MDS).
- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices, as well as knowledge in Infection Control Practices.
- Effective human relation skills and demonstrated commitment to working with seniors.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential.
