 Position Overview:

The Recreational Therapists are responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Recreation Department, including the designing, planning, and implementing meaningful, engaging activities for the residents.

Responsibilities:

  • Designing, planning, and implementing purposeful engagement activities that are interesting and fulfilling to daily lives.
  • Ensuring residents are engaged individually and in group settings, and that the activities are reflective of the organization’s philosophy.
  • Document and articulate program rationale, goals, benefits and expected outcomes of activities.
  • Attend all meetings as requested, including but not limited to general meetings, care conferences, activity meetings, family meetings, and perform duties as requested.
  • Completion of recreation documentation including but not limited to general reports, assessments, progress notes, case conference reports, emails, activity documentation, notification of programs and special events.
  • Promote a positive team spirit within the department.
  • Provide guidance to students and volunteers.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in one of the following – Recreation & Leisure, Activation, Therapeutic Recreation.
  • 3 years of recreation experience working with seniors.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working with individuals living with dementia
  • Proficient writing and verbal communication skill.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with team members and with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to deal with changing environment/ workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, organize and implement leisure/recreation programs; assess, evaluate and document.
  • Must be an excellent team player, reliable and mature.
  • Knowledge of current Therapeutic Recreation literature, resources, standards, trends and research.
  • Ability to work flexible hours such as evenings, weekends, holidays.
  • Proficient in computer skills including email and Microsoft Office, other recreation software.
  • Food Handler’s Certificate.
  • First Aid Certification an asset.
