The O’Neill Centre is a fully accredited long-term care home in the heart of Toronto, Ontario. Part of Responsive Health Management (RHM), we’ve been proudly serving seniors and families for over 40 years, providing compassionate, person-centred living in a safe and inclusive environment.

Licensed for 161 beds, The O’Neill Centre currently accommodates 114 residents following the elimination of third and fourth beds. The home offers a full range of services from skilled nursing and restorative care to engaging recreation and cultural programs that enhance quality of life. Position Overview:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Care (DOC) provides strategic and operational leadership to the nursing department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care for all residents at The O’Neill Centre. The DOC oversees clinical programs, quality improvement initiatives, and compliance with all applicable legislation and professional standards.

Working closely with interdisciplinary teams, residents, and families, the DOC fosters a culture of compassion, accountability, and continuous improvement. This role also plays a key part in staff development, resource management, and maintaining a safe, inclusive, and supportive care environment aligned with The O’Neill Centre’s mission and values.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Clinical Operations: Provide strategic leadership across all aspects of resident care, ensuring excellence in nursing practice and a compassionate, person-centred approach.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Oversee adherence to the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, professional standards, and all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: Partner with the Medical Director, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, holistic care for all residents.
  • Develop and Mentor Staff: Recruit, coach, and support nursing team members, fostering professional growth, engagement, and accountability.
  • Promote a Positive Culture: Build a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative workplace that reflects The O’Neill Centre’s PEOPLE values.
  • Drive Quality Improvement: Lead quality assurance activities, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance resident outcomes.
  • Maintain Safety and Infection Control: Monitor compliance with infection prevention, workplace safety, and risk management protocols.
  • Manage Resources Effectively: Oversee staffing, scheduling, and budgeting within the nursing department to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Enhance Resident Experience: Develop and implement programs and services that promote dignity, choice, and overall quality of life.
  • Support Organizational Goals: Contribute to strategic planning, accreditation readiness, and leadership initiatives that advance The O’Neill Centre’s mission.

Qualifications:

Education & Registration:

  • Current registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or equivalent Canadian regulatory authority (as per Bill 60).
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; postgraduate education in healthcare leadership, gerontology, or quality improvement is considered an asset.
  • RAI-MDS certification (AIS) preferred or willingness to complete within one (1) year of hire.

Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive nursing experience, including at least one (1) year as a Registered Nurse in the long-term care sector, and three (3) years in a managerial or supervisory capacity within a healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and general computer applications.
