Position Overview:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Care (DOC) provides strong clinical leadership to the resident care team, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centred care that meets all legislative and professional standards. The DOC oversees the effective management of human, material, and fiscal resources within the Nursing Department and leads the development and implementation of resident-focused programs, policies, and procedures aligned with best practices and regulatory requirements. The role monitors and enhances care quality through continuous evaluation and quality improvement initiatives. A champion of safety and well-being, the DOC fosters a secure environment and promotes a culture of accountability, teamwork, and clinical excellence across the home.
Responsibilities:
The clinical leader will oversee the delivery of safe, high-quality, resident-centred care while ensuring all programs, policies, and procedures align with legislative and professional standards. This role provides strong leadership to nursing teams through supervision, coaching, scheduling, and performance management, while fostering continuous skills development. The successful candidate will champion quality improvement initiatives, monitor clinical outcomes, and ensure full compliance with regulatory and safety requirements. They will manage human, material, and fiscal resources to support efficient operations, promote resident safety through proactive risk management, and collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, residents, and families to support care planning and resolve issues.
Qualifications:
Education & Registration:
- Current registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Completion of a recognized nursing program; additional education in gerontology, leadership, or health administration is an asset.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive nursing experience, including at least one (1) year as a Registered Nurse in the long-term care sector, and three (3) years in a managerial or supervisory capacity within a healthcare setting.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong knowledge of the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, Ontario Health regulations, professional standards, and best practices in LTC clinical care.
