Director of Care to join their team.

Riverside Health Care Facilities Inc. is a fully accredited, multi-site healthcare system serving communities across the Rainy River District in Northwestern Ontario. With headquarters in Fort Frances, the organization operates La Verendrye General Hospital, Rainycrest, Rainy River Health Centre (21 LTC beds with 4 acute care beds), and Emo Health Centre (12 LTC beds with 3 acute care beds), providing essential hospital, emergency, long-term care, and community-based services throughout the region.

Together, Riverside Health Care’s healthcare sites support a catchment area of more than 20,000 residents across a large rural district, helping ensure access to vital healthcare services close to home. Through a broad range of programs, including emergency services, rehabilitation, community counselling, long-term care, and specialized clinics, Riverside Health Care plays an important role in supporting the health and well-being of residents across the Rainy River District.

Position Overview & Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Administrator of the Rainy River Health Centres and Emo Health Centre, the Director of Care provides leadership for nursing services and resident care within the Extended Long-Term Care and Assisted Living Program (ELDCAP), helping ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality care.

  • Clinical Leadership & Nursing Oversight: Provide leadership for nursing services and resident care within the Extended Long-Term Care and Assisted Living Program (ELDCAP) at the Rainy River and Emo Health Centres.
  • Strategic Care Planning & Program Implementation: Work closely with clinical and administrative leadership to support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient and resident care services.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Patient-Centered Care: Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams and community partners to promote coordinated care delivery, continuity of care, and positive health outcomes.
  • Nursing Staff Leadership, Performance & Professional Development: Provide leadership and guidance to nursing staff while fostering a supportive and collaborative care environment. Support staff performance management and quality improvement initiatives, and facilitate education, orientation, mentoring, and clinical training programs to strengthen professional practice and maintain high standards of care.
  • Policy Development & Evidence-Based Practice: Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines that support evidence-based practice and operational effectiveness.
  • Committee Participation: Participate in organizational committees, care conferences, and interdisciplinary meetings while working collaboratively with leadership to support the effective delivery of healthcare services.

Qualifications:

Education & Professional Registration:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BScN) or a recognized equivalent.
  • Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • Current certifications including BCLS, ACLS, TNCC, CTAS, and NRP.

Clinical & Leadership Experience:

  • Minimum one (1) year experience working as a Registered Nurse in the long-term care sector and a minimum of three (3) years experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience supporting quality improvement initiatives and maintaining professional nursing standards.

Knowledge & Professional Competencies:

  • Understanding of relevant healthcare legislation including the Employment Standards Act, Substitute Decisions Act, Human Rights legislation, Public Hospitals Act, and Regulated Health Professions Act.
  • Familiarity with collective agreements and working within a unionized environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Progressive administrative or leadership experience in a nursing environment.
  • Leadership or management education.
  • Critical care experience (ER or ICU).
  • Membership with the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO).

Compensation:

  • Hourly wage range of $45.06 – $60.05, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Full-time position scheduled at 75 hours bi-weekly, typically Monday to Friday.
  • The successful candidate may be required to work alternate hours from time to time to support the operational requirements of the Rainy River and Emo Health Centres.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including HOOPP pension plan participation and health and dental benefits through Blue Cross.
  • Relocation support may be negotiable for the successful candidate.
