Job Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Care (DOC) leads the Resident Care Department and is responsible for the planning, organization, and delivery of safe, high-quality, resident-centred nursing and clinical services aligned with the organization’s mission, values, and regulatory requirements. The role oversees clinical programs, staffing, budgeting, and professional practice standards to ensure effective operations and excellence in care.
As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director of Care collaborates with internal departments, healthcare partners, and external stakeholders to advance quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and organizational priorities. The DOC also provides leadership in workforce planning, labour relations, and program development, fostering a collaborative culture grounded in accountability, team engagement, and strong resident outcomes.
Duties &Responsibilities:
Clinical Operations & Resident Care Leadership
- Lead the Resident Care Department to deliver safe, high-quality, resident-centred nursing and clinical services.
- Establish clinical standards, monitor care delivery, and drive continuous quality improvement.
Strategic Planning, Policy & Program Development
- Develop and evaluate clinical policies, procedures, and programs.
- Contribute to organizational strategy, systems planning, and service improvements as a senior leadership team member.
Budget, Resource Management & External Partnerships
- Manage the departmental operating budget and optimize staffing and clinical resources.
- Maintain effective relationships with regulators, healthcare partners, and community stakeholders.
People Leadership & Labour Relations
- Lead recruitment, performance management, workforce planning, scheduling, and staff development.
- Oversee labour relations matters, including discipline, grievances, and collective agreement administration.
Risk Management & Organizational Accountability
- Support incident reporting, workplace safety, and risk management practices.
- Participate in leadership meetings, union-management discussions, and Board-related activities.
Skills & Qualifications:
Education & Registration
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Current practicing registration in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (or eligible).
Leadership & Management Experience
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in a healthcare setting or public health environment.
- At least three-five (3-5) years of recent supervisory or managerial experience, including responsibility for human resources and labour relations.
- Demonstrated experience leading clinical teams and managing nursing operations within a regulated care environment.
Knowledge & Professional Competencies
- Strong understanding of long-term care operations, professional nursing standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency with computerized information systems and healthcare documentation platforms.
- Ability to speak, read, or write German considered an asset.
Compensation:
- The annual salary range for this position is $135,000 – $145,000, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and leadership background.
