Job Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Care leads the Nursing Department and is accountable for delivering resident care in alignment with the organization’s mission, values, and legislative requirements. The DOC oversees nursing operations, including budgeting, staffing, workforce planning, quality and risk management, regulatory compliance, and adherence to nursing standards and long-term care legislation. Working collaboratively, the DOC promotes a resident-centred approach, supports recruitment and performance management, participates in accreditation and committees, and ensures corrective actions are implemented to address risks or non-compliance.

Duties &Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Nursing Operations Leadership: Provide strategic leadership for all nursing operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, resident-centred care aligned with legislative standards and clinical best practices.
  • Budget, Staffing & Resource Management: Oversee nursing budget management, staffing models, and resource allocation to support sustainable, efficient operations.
  • Quality Improvement & Regulatory Compliance: Lead quality improvement, risk management, and regulatory compliance initiatives, maintaining excellence in inspection readiness and professional nursing standards.
  • Team Development & Union Environment Leadership: Recruit, mentor, and develop engaged nursing teams within a unionized environment, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Senior Leadership & Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with senior leadership and interdisciplinary teams to strengthen governance, workplace safety, and organizational performance.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, or registered with a regulatory authority in another Canadian jurisdiction with equivalent authorization to practice in Ontario (as of right exemption Bill 60).
  • Minimum one (1) year experience working as a Registered Nurse in the long-term care sector and a minimum of three (3) years experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a healthcare setting; or previous experience as a Director of Nursing in a long-term care home meeting the regulatory experience requirements.
  • AIS certification required or must be successfully completed within one (1) year of hire.
  • Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check, proof of TB testing or chest X-ray as required, and documented vaccination status as determined by the Employer.

Compensation:

  • Annual salary range of $115,000 – $135,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • The total compensation package includes a full benefit package as well as a matching RRSP contribution.
