Position Overview:

The Occupational Health and Safety Manager will be responsible to develop, implement and manage health and safety programs, policies and procedures that adhere to local, provincial, and federal legislation and are aligned with corporate goals and objectives.

The successful candidate will oversee a small team and have regional responsibility to review and conduct audits to ensure compliance and collaborate with various departments and leaders to establish a culture of safety, minimize risks, and maintain compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate (Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Registered Safety Professional, Industrial Hygienist) or equivalent certification preferred
  • Health & Safety management experience within a large organization or region
  • Strong knowledge of provincial and federal occupational health and safety legislation
  • Class 5 Drivers Licence

To meet the growing demand of culturally focused long-term care in Vancouver, Villa Cathay Care Home embarked on a $72.9 million rejuvenation project. The new Villa Cathay Care Home offers private bedrooms with en-suite showers and has also improved and expanded services such as rehabilitation and restorative care, specialized dementia care and various innovative programs to elevate residents’ quality of life.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Care will join a passionate, committed leadership team dedicated to reimagining long term care and realizing a new vision for the organization.

This position will lead and manage the nursing care team and will champion initiatives which strengthen care outcomes, life choices, and the quality of living for residents of Villa Cathay Care Home.

As the Director of Care, you will oversee the planning and delivery of nursing programs and you will guide and support a team of dedicated healthcare professionals for the optimal health and welfare of the residents and employees.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring excellence in resident-centered care and continuous quality improvement.
  • Leading and directing the people and policies of the nursing and resident care practice.
  • Providing leadership and direction on planning, design, implementation, delivery, and assessment of nursing functions to meet resident needs.
  • Ensuring that care operations run smoothly, overseeing the care delivery to ensure that consistent, efficient workflows are in place for optimal care and performance.
  • Working closely with senior leadership and the board to develop long-term strategies to meet Villa Cathay Care Home’s objectives.
  • Continually satisfying all federal and provincial laws and mandates, overseeing external audits, and developing and implementing responsive actions and improvements.
  • Representing the organization in the health service community, civic/provincial governments as well as with donors and others.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing; current registration with BCCNM.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ of nursing management experience in a health care organization.
  • Long-term care experience an asset.
  • Gerontology nursing credential or a degree or certificate in health administration is an asset.
  • Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities and experience in developing high-functioning teams; setting high standards and leading others by example and direction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their families, staff, and others in the community is essential.

General Manager, Senior’s Housing

Position Overview:

The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the seniors’ supportive residence. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the delivery of weekly housekeeping services, daily food services and daily recreational activities for the residents. The General Manager is responsible for the managing of all aspects of the building operations in collaboration and coordination with the Operations Department.
The General Manager is responsible for supervising all staff members, and works directly with the Senior Leadership Team and external stakeholders on marketing and advertising to fill vacancies in a timely manner, managing the budget and financial performance, doing strategic planning, and pursuing innovative strategic objectives.

Responsibilities:

LEADERSHIP:
  • Works with the Staff and Senior Leadership Team in setting direction and fostering effective teamwork.
ADMINISTRATION
  • Oversees the day-to-day administration within the community.
  • Maintains confidential files including resident records, applications and medical information, staff related files, maintenance and operational records, food and housekeeping services related files, and operational permits and licenses.
  • Coordinates the development and administration of policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
BC SENIORS LIVING ASSOCIATION – SEAL OF APPROVAL
  •  Oversees the entire accreditation process with BC Seniors’ Living Association, and in particular the bi-annual Seal of Approval assessment.
  • Ensures that the community operations utilize best practices and remain in compliance at all times with the accepted Seal of Approval standards of quality and service.
OPERATIONS
  • Effectively manages the day-to-day operations.
  • Ensures the building is well maintained and that repairs are completed on a timely basis.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
  • Works directly with the Director of Finance and Senior Leadership Team in preparing the annual operating budget.
  • Monitors financial performance, and manages and approves expenditures within the authority delegated and within the approved budget.
STAFF MANAGEMENT
  • Monitors the performance of staff in accordance with the the Home’s Staff Professional Development Plan.
  • Determines and recommends staffing requirements and manages the recruitment, training and professional development.
