 Company Overview:

Ehatare Retirement and Nursing Home is a charity owned and operated Retirement and Long-Term Care Home built by the Estonian Relief Committee in Canada.  As an ethnic, not-for-profit home, Ehatare’s mission is to serve the Estonian-Canadian Community in the GTA and beyond. The Retirement Home has 83 units consisting of single, double occupancy and new 1-bedroom suites. The Nursing Home has a mixture of rooms serving 32 Residents.  Ehatare’s dedicated staff has a history of providing exceptional quality care with excellent community and family relations. In recent years, the organization has made significant investments in new and larger suites, updating major infrastructure and is in the process of upgrading common areas.  The vision behind this significant investment is to leverage its excellent history and status as a resident focused, boutique style, ethnic Home that is changing to meet the expectations of a new generation of residents.
 

 Position Overview:

This home’s “raison d’etre” is its cultural experience.  Residents come to Ehatare for the comfort of living in an environment that respects and honours their language, customs and traditions.  The successful candidate has to demonstrate an ability to proactively build upon that heritage in the context of continuously improving the resident experience in all areas. As a not-for-profit, Ehatare is seeking a strategic, passionate leader with excellent communication skills and experience in long term care and retirement home management.  Strong personal and customer service skills are required to mentor, coach, and build excellent relationships with staff, residents and families.  Allowing colleagues to participate actively in the process and encouraging idea sharing, better problem solving and maintaining a cohesive environment is fundamentally important in this close-knit Home.  While managing and implementing current operational plans and improvements, a successful candidate will be continually engaged with the Board to enhance and compliment the organization’s vision for the future.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with the Board to develop an annual review of mission, vision, values, and strategic plan for the facility and oversee daily operations and all related projects, assignments and responsibilities as assigned by the Board
  • Provide regular reports to the Board and recommend to the Board all changes of administrative policies required to carry out objectives
  • Develop organizational goals and objectives with the leadership team which supports achievement of the strategic plan
  • Select, develop, and motivate management and office staff and monitor performance to assure a high level of productivity and the best use of current capabilities, as well as to provide for the facility’s future management needs
  • Prepare budgets and implement controls for effective utilization of the physical and financial resources of the retirement and nursing home
  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory and legal requirements, and to all internal policies and procedures, Infection Control Policies as well as the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Review, respond and act where necessary, on all reports of inspection authorities
  • Utilize quality management concepts and best practices to ensure development of indicators and regular monitoring of all components of care and service, including the structural systems that support care, for analyzing findings, taking corrective action and evaluate the effectiveness of these actions
  • Ensure all personnel, trust accounts and medical records are maintained in compliance with legal and board requirements
  • Negotiate and/or participate as the Management leader in collective bargaining as required, and provide for the implementation and administration of the collective agreement, including handling all union related labour grievances. Must also handle all employee relations for non-unionized personnel
  • Ensure ongoing relationships with Internal (all residents, family members, managers, staff, physicians, contract clinicians, volunteers and companions) and External (other care providers, suppliers, health service organizations and committees in the community) stakeholders
  • Ensure appropriate marketing, advertising and public relations activities are coordinated in order to maintain a positive image; represents the facility at various relevant community, professional, civic and service organizations meetings

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a 3 year degree or 2 year diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in health or social services (preferred)
  • Long Term Care Administrator’s Certification
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and ability to oversee and take responsibility for preparation of sound financial statements and reporting
  • Knowledge of MOHLTC Act and Retirement Home Act
  • Minimum of three years of senior management experience, with experience in a long term care setting preferred
  • Must possess the ability to work within and develop a team environment. Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
  • Highly effective interpersonal, problem solving, conflict resolution and critical thinking skills
  • Understanding of Estonian culture and language would be an asset 
  • Knowledge and experience in construction and major building projects
  • would be an asset
