 Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Administrator, the Environmental Services Supervisor is responsible and accountable for the provision of effective Maintenance Services for the Home, residents and staff. Ensures the Home, and its equipment are in a state of good repair. Ensures a safe environment for residents, visitors and staff.


  • Organizes and manages all aspects of the Environmental Services department
  • Participates in the orientation process for residents, students, volunteers and staff
  • Participates on Home, local and provincial committees
  • Must actively participate in ongoing educational opportunities and transmits information regarding new developments and trends to staff
  • Provides educational opportunities for staff, residents, families, volunteers and students related to the services of the department
  • Adaptable and flexible; willing to perform a variety of tasks
  • Maintains records in accordance with policies and procedures and government regulations for the Home
  • Provides regular reports on Environmental Services and initiatives to the Administrator
  • Implement and maintain a complete and comprehensive preventative maintenance program for the Home
  • Maintains an effective Waste Management Program
  • Ensures the availability of Emergency “on call” services
  • Promotes strong community linkage for sharing of resources
  • To perform basic hands-on general maintenance repairs associated with the Home’s operation
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work-place
  • Coordinates the awarding and supervision of contracts and contractors working for the Home
  • Performs any outside grounds maintenance as the seasons require.
  • Protects own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately and attending all relevant in-services regarding occupational health and safety
  • Follows all roles and responsibilities for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act


  • Minimum 5 years of maintenance related work experience required
  • Good problem solving skills and ability to develop conceptual alternatives
  • Able to interpret and implement applicable laws and regulations.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Must be familiar with cleaning products
  • Strong customer service orientation and skills
  • Basic mathematical skills required
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
  • Ability to follow through and complete overlapping projects
  • High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability
  • High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning, and discretion
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety Act.
