 Position Overview:

The Manager, Environmental Services is responsible and accountable to the Chief Executive Officer for the administration, organization and management of the Housekeeping, Laundry, and Maintenance Departments. These responsibilities shall be carried out in accordance with corporate policies, procedures, mission and philosophy the collective agreement(s), and applicable legislation and regulations while providing a safe, comfortable, clean, well-maintained environment for residents, staff and visitors.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess the quantity and type of housekeeping, laundry and maintenance services considering available resources;
  • Plan the delivery of all housekeeping, laundry and maintenance services to be provided in accordance with professional, established, legal, and generally accepted standards and practices;
  • Implement the services in accordance with housekeeping, laundry and maintenance departmental standards;
  • Evaluate the outcomes of services provided and implement improvements where warranted;
  • Participate in planning and decision making at management team level;
  • Recruit, interview, select, hire, educate, supervise, evaluate, discipline, and discharge housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance department personnel;
  • Plan and implement work schedules and assign hours and areas of work within the parameters of the Collective Agreement(s) and the corporate policies;
  • Provide attendance management of personnel within the housekeeping, laundry and maintenance departments;
  • Coordinate all housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance department inservice programs;
  • Ensure ongoing updating of manuals and position descriptions pertaining to the housekeeping, laundry and maintenance departments;
  • Provide annual budget inputs for the housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance departments, and maintain fiscal adherence to the approved budget;
  • Evaluate the need for all housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance department supplies, equipment, and materials;
  • Purchase, receive and maintain control of same ensuring their appropriate and efficient use within the housekeeping, laundry and maintenance departments;
  • Participate in, or be represented in, community, provincial and national  health associations and professional activities which promote and are consistent with the delivery of non-profit health care services;
  • Ensure environmental services are organized to provide a safe, comfortable, clean, well-maintained environment for residents, staff and visitors;
  • Ensure laundry services are organized to meet the linen and personal clothing needs of residents;
  • Be in charge of the evacuation program

Qualifications:

  • Minimum grade 12 certificate with extensive experience in building construction and maintenance;
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, creative problem solving, conflict resolution and leadership skills plus experience in working with seniors.
  • Relevant computer literacy;
