Position Overview:

Reporting to the Administrator, the Director of Care is accountable for managing all aspects of Nursing Services within the home and ensure the effective and efficient delivery of quality resident care as per company policies, legislative requirements including the Continuing Care Health Service Standards of Alberta Health. The Director of Care will ensure departmental budgets are met as well as creating a culture of safety and quality of work life for staff.


  • Provides a leadership and supervisory role in the delivery of resident care services
  • Ensures that policies and procedures are aligned with facility culture, vision, mission and values
  • Responsible for the implementation and evaluation of new technologies and research , risk management and CQI systems related to resident care, monitoring of quality and timely completion of MDS/RAI 2.0, resident quality of life and service (i.e. falls, restraint use, wound management, client satisfaction)
  • Maintains all required records, reports, statistics, data analysis, report writing for both residents and department personnel in accordance with policies, procedures and legislative requirements
  • Liaises and consults with families/residents, government officials, staff, company resources and professionals in relation to resident care needs and provision of care activities
  • May assume responsibility for the facility in the absence of the Administrator


  • Membership in good standing with College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing and /or speciality in Gerontology
  • Previous managerial experience in long-term care as well as knowledge of applicable legislation, industry standards, labour relations and human resources matters
  • Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices and MDS/RAI 2.0
  • Effective leadership, organizational, communication and relationship building skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality care and services; customer service; acts as a champion for customer satisfaction
