 Position Overview:

The Director of Care is responsible for the management of all nursing services. Meets and confers with management at regular intervals to discuss policy, conditions and progress in the department. The Director of Care shall provide professional nursing care to residents and supervise the care given by PSW/HCA on a day to day basis. To plan, implement and evaluate nursing services according to the company’s policies while remaining in compliance with RHA and other legislative bodies.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements and evaluates overall quality of resident care by the nursing department
  • Establishes and develops job routines and performance evaluations criteria which delineate job responsibilities and expectations
  • Responsible for all aspects of human resources within the nursing department, including: interviewing, hiring, training and evaluating staff
  • Ensures all members of nursing department are knowledgeable and aware of regulations, policies and procedures
  • Preparation and management of the nursing services budget, according to company policy
  • Ensures all residents’ assessments and care plans are updated and revised on on-going basis, according to RHA requirements
  • Ensure all care plans are developed thoroughly and utilized by all care staff that are responsible to provide care to residents
  • Ensures the residents’ family, physician and management team are informed of changes in residents’ condition and needs
  • Ensures all Infection Control, Falls Prevention, Outbreak Management, Behaviour Management programs are in place, communicated to the nursing team and maintained as per company policy and in compliance with RHA and other legislative bodies
  • Responsible for delivery of orientation and training program in accordance with RHA and other legislative bodies
  • Completes QA audits, inspections and reports
  • Assists and contributes to staff development and education
  • Holds regular department meetings
  • Participates in residence committees and encourages nursing staff to do the same
  • Ensures all Registered Staff orders, administers and stores medications and treatments in compliance with the company policies, pharmacy and standards of the College of Nurses
  • Is aware of employees’ responsibilities and follows all Health and Safety policies and procedures as set out in the department manual
  • Promptly reports personal injury to supervisor and seeks first aid as needed
  • Participates in fire safety demonstrations and fire drills, and is knowledgeable of the homes fire and disaster plan

Qualifications:

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Minimum of three years’ related experience, preferably in retirement industry
  • Knowledge of business equipment and computer applications, such as MS Office, Yardi, payroll processing software, etc.
