OVERVIEW

Our client, Sunnycrest Nursing Home Ltd., is located in Whitby, Ontario and is currently seeking a Director of Care to join their team.

Sunnycrest has achieved an “Accredited” status, as awarded by CARF every year since their first in 1984 and have been under the direction of the same owners since 1967. Through the years, Sunnycrest Nursing Home Ltd. has completed expansions to two, three-story wings accommodating 136 residents in basic ward (4 beds), semi-private (2 beds), and private (1 bed) rooms. They are proud members of the Ontario Long-Term Care Association.

Residents at Sunnycrest Nursing Home Ltd. enjoy a large wheelchair accessible horticultural patio and gardens as well as an on-site beauty salon, family room, a tuck cart and two large craft / activity rooms. They believe interest and stimulation is essential to everyday living and is fostered through life enrichment spiritual, recreational and rehabilitative programs.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a valued member of the team, the Director of Care is responsible for the nursing department and oversees resident care to ensure quality care, resident safety and wellness.

Reporting to the Administrator, the DOC is required to meet the needs and expectations of the residents in accordance with the standards and guidelines of the Long Term Care Homes Act.  This includes promoting and fostering resident-centered programs and care that reflects the values and preferences of the resident.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the management of the nursing department to provide quality resident care
  • Ensures the provision of resident-centered services to meet the needs of residents
  • Responsible to manage the nursing department’s financial resources
  • Provides effective human resource staffing and education:  Recruits, hires, trains, promotes, transfers and dismisses staff
  • Provides for effective use of material resources
  • Maintains an appropriate recording system
  • Responsible for quality management and occupational health and safety

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Nurse with a current certificate of competence from the College Nurses of Ontario
  • Minimum one year of experience working as a registered nurse in the Long Term Care sector
  • 3 years relevant management or leadership experience in health care, or long-term care facility
  • Effective planning and leadership skills required for managing the nursing department
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems, and work under pressure with a high degree of professionalism and diplomacy.
  • Must have effective verbal and written English communication skills

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor of Science, Nursing or equivalent
