Director of Care, Registered Nurse,

Barrie, Ontario

Overview:

Our client is a Not-For-Profit organization that is comprised of 143 Long Term Care Beds, a small retirement home and an Adult Day Care Program. Serving the citizens of Barrie for 50 years, our client continues to enjoy a great reputation within the community. Designated as a Best Practices Spotlight Organization (BPSO), they are proud of the quality care that they provide and the staff who provide it.

Due to a planned retirement, we are currently looking for a Registered Nurse who is a member of the College of Nurses. The ideal candidate will have strong inter-personal skills, leadership ability, and the communication skills to lead our Nursing Department. They will have Long Term Care experience and at least three years in a supervisory or management capacity. They will also be capable of managing multiple priorities and leading a team of skilled and passionate individuals. As part of the management team, the Director of Care will work collaboratively with other team members to bring about the best results for our residents.

Responsibilities & Qualifications:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads, plans, directs, and monitors the over-all operation of the Nursing Department
  • Ensures quality improvement and compliance with the Long Term Care Home Act and Regulations, as well as legislative, and policy requirements
  • Monitors and ensures effective use and management of supplies and financial resources
  • Participates in the management of human resource performance issues and occupational health and safety
  • Works with the Manager of Human Resources to recruit, hire, orientate and facilitate education for staff in the Nursing Department
  • Works collaboratively with members of the management team and other staff members and participates in pertinent decision making
  • Acts as a representative of Grove Park through professional interaction with residents, staff, volunteers, family, and external stakeholders
  • Assumes responsibility for the overall operation of the Long Term Care Home in the absence of the Administrator
  • Reviews all resident applications for admission to determine appropriate level of care; and assists with processing of admissions and discharges
  • Leads the Continuous Quality Improvement Program, by monitoring and evaluating nursing and related services to improve the quality of resident care.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse with a current certificate of competence from the College of Nursing of Ontario, and in good standing
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience working as a registered nurse in the long-term care sector
  • A minimum three (3) years of experience working as a registered nurse in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a health care setting, preferably in Long Term Care
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skill
