Assistant Director of Resident Care/Nurse Manager (Registered Nurse)
Lambton County, Ontario

 Position Overview:

Under the general direction of the Director of Resident Care, the Assistant Director of Resident Care/Nurse Manager is responsible for directing, implementing and evaluating the delivery of care services for the health and well-being of residents based upon established standards and protocols, ensuring that there is full compliance with the regulations set out in the Long-Term Care Act.
 
This is a new position intended to optimize clinical leadership. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the implementation and evaluation of the nursing department quality improvement initiatives and risk management systems. 
  • Provides updates/reports as requested.
  • Leads best practice programs related to resident care including but not limited to: 
    • Falls Prevention
    • Wound Management
    • Infection Control 
    • Continence Care
    • Palliative Care
  • Manages utilization of nursing supplies, ensuring appropriate use within budgetary requirements. 
  • Supports the RAI-MDS program. 
  • Supports an interdisciplinary approach to resident care planning. 
  • Oversees the provision of quality resident care; mentoring staff and providing coaching on resident care needs. 
  • Assists with recruitment, hiring, supervising, appraising and disciplining assigned staff.
  • Investigates and develops a corrective action plan for matters related to occupational health and safety.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing and efficient use of human resources to ensure resident care needs are met. 
  • Assumes responsibility for the nursing and personal care service in the absence of the Director of Resident Care.
  • Adheres to the language contained in the collective agreement.

Qualifications:

  • Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Bachelor of Nursing Science or equivalent post diploma education.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working as a registered nurse in the long-term care sector.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working as a registered nurse in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a health care setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
