 COMPANY AND POSITION OVERVIEW:

This 35-bed long term care home is located in the heart of Toronto’s picturesque Leaside neighbourhood, surrounded by shops, services and quiet, tree-lined residential streets.

Our valued client is a not-for-profit Seniors’ Centre dedicated to providing excellence in compassionate multi-level care and services, housing and activities for the Finnish community.

The ground floor offers the convenience of medical and dental offices, a pharmacy and hair salon. The 2nd to 6th floors feature the residents’ suites, available as life-lease homes or on rental basis. The 7th floor is the Long-term care home with beautiful views of Leaside’s park-like neighbourhood.

As a valued member of the team, the Administrator/Director of Care will manage the efficient use of human, physical and financial resources to provide high quality care for residents in the long-term care home within budgetary constraints and legislative requirements. The Administrator/DOC carries the ultimate responsibility for resident care.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides leadership in the establishment and implementation of policies and procedures for the various departments of the home to ensure a high level of medical, physical and emotional care for residents and an effective operating environment for employees. Interprets policies and procedures to nursing staff, residents, families, medical staff, other departments or service providers, as required.
  • Provides leadership in the achievement of the home’s objectives in providing care to residents. Assumes ultimate responsibility for providing and monitoring the level of care of residents.
  • Selects, develops and motivates management and office and nursing home staff and monitors performance to assure a high level of productivity and the best use of current capabilities, as well as to provide for the home’s future management needs.
  • Establishes staffing patterns and work schedules and monitors and effects changes as necessary, Responds to staff needs and encourages intra and interdepartmental cooperation.
  • Provides or arranges for in-service and continuing education programs for department staff.
  • Assists unit charge nurses/other nursing staff in the following: developing and implementing holistic resident care plans; providing orientation and in-services; conducting staff meetings.
  • Develops and monitors the quality assurance program and evaluates nursing and related services to improve quality of resident care.
  • Directs the budgeting process and manages the operation of the home within budget. Oversees the accounting operations for the home. Makes recommendations to Director and Board of Directors for additional equipment for other capital expenditures outside of budget and, on approval, arranges for purchase. Delegates the responsibility for availability and maintenance of nursing and program supplies and equipment.
  • Ensures maintenance of accurate records of residents, personnel, and the operations and statistics in order to provide regular reports on financial, personnel and medical information as required by legislation and directors.
  • Liaises with residents, families and the community in order to maintain a good relationship for the home with the Ministry and professional association to keep abreast of current industry trends and standards.
  • Establishes a committee which coordinates the admission process for new residents.
  • Participates in negotiation and/or negotiates contracts for any outside services, insurance etc. in consultation with CEO.
  • Ensures that fire and safety procedures and regulations are followed.
  • Chairs and/or participates on committees related to resident care and operation of the home.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five (5) years’ relevant management experience
  • Three (3) years’ previous experience in long term care
  • Holds a current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario (RN Registered Nurse)
  • Possesses the Administrator Certification or is enrolled in the course is an asset
  • Working knowledge of the Long Term Care Homes Act, 2007
  • Knowledge of employment standards, health and safety standards and human rights
  • Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Has well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with colleagues, clients, employees, volunteers and the community at large
