Environmental Manager

Long Term Care – Non-For-Profit

This 100-bed non-for-profit long-term care home is located in Woodbridge. The homes purpose is to provide Long Term Care in a culturally sensitive setting that respects Latvian heritage and is committed to offering the highest quality care delivered with compassion and respect in a safe surrounding and ensuring the individual rights of every resident.

The Environmental Manager is responsible for the housekeeping, laundry, maintenance of the facility and works with the management team and staff to ensure that interdepartmental operations are effective and efficient.


  • Ensures that Environmental Department in compliance with legislative regulatory and the Home requirements, standards and policies.
  • Assists Executive Director with identifying, prioritizing, developing and monitoring capital projects.  Completes Project Overviews of Capital Projects and completes reports as required. Participates in Board of Directors’ Building Committee meetings as required.
  • Selects, orientates, supervises and evaluates the performance environmental staff (housekeeping, maintenance, laundry).
  • Ensures that infection control practices policies and procedures in relation to laundry and housekeeping issues are established, implemented and monitored.
  • Updates policies and procedures for Environmental Department manuals and records and submits reports as required.
  • Participates in the development of the Environmental Department annual operating budget and ensures operation within approved parameters and prepares budget lines and monthly invoices received.
  • Participates in and promotes continuous education and provides in-service to departmental employees.
  • Monitors inventories of departmental supplies and re-orders as required. (Housekeeping, Maintenance & Laundry)
  • Sets up and ensures the satisfactory operation of preventive maintenance programs.
  • Ensures grounds are maintained by employing staff resources or service contracts. (Includes parking lots, driveways, landscaping, clean up, snow removal etc.
  • Is aware of the Resident Bill of Rights and endeavours to respect and promote resident satisfaction.
  • Fulfils responsibilities as set out in fire safety program with the Fire Marshall.
  • Serves as a member on appropriate committees.
  • Promotes a positive work environment and team spirit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.


  • Must have post-secondary education and two (2) years of management experience.
  • Must possess good oral and written skills with the ability to effectively supervise the activities of staff. Must be able to guide and mentor staff, resolve disputes and promote a healthy work environment.
  • Should have knowledge of regulations and legislation which govern long term care. Regulatory bodies include: The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Environment, Public Health, Vaughan Fire Department and Fire Marshall’s Office, Ministry of Environment (well water and septic), Occupation and Health and Safety, Building Code.
  • Experience with well and septic system.
  • Knowledge of Infection Control an asset.
  • Must have experience in a health care facility.
  • Computer knowledge an asset.
