Director of Care (Registered Nurse)

This expansive two storey residence offering 230 Long-Term Care beds is a complex care residence, offering 24/7 professional care in a supportive, caring environment for individuals with a range of cognitive impairments, as well as for those who are cognitively well but have higher physical care needs.


The Director of Care is an Ambassador of the organization:
  • Models the organizational values
  • Demonstrates a consistent example of Servant Leadership by serving the needs of others
  • Fosters and maintains positive, collaborative relationships with Residents, Team Members, Families and Partners
Program & Team Leadership:
  • In consultation with the Administrator and the contracted care partner, is responsible for the day to day coordination, supervision, strategic planning and future development of all clinical programs
  • Ensures clinical programs respond to the physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and social needs of Residents using a person-centered Wellness Model of care
  • Provides leadership and direction in all aspects of Resident care
  • Participates in monitoring quality of Resident care and quality improvement initiatives
  • Participates in the accreditation process
  • Works closely with the Administrator and Contracted Care Partner in strategic planning for staffing models, service model, accreditation processes and regional process and policy alignment
  • Participates in the selection and hiring, orientation, performance and retention of staff
  • Develops the Clinical Team by providing feedback, leadership, teaching, coaching, mentoring and support
Networking and Relationships:
  • Creates positive, collaborative partnerships with key partners, such as:
Budgets and Analysis:
  • Collaborates with the Administrator and Director of Operations in preparing the department budget and overseeing departmental expenditures
Professional Development:
  • Assumes responsibility for personal and professional development and maintenance of competencies required for College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia
Health & Safety:
  • Establishes, influences and supports a culture of health and safety
  • Ensures Team Members are adequately trained regarding hazards in the workplace and safe work procedures
  • Ensures Team Members are supervised and in compliance with WorkSafe BC regulations, safety policies and safe work procedures are enforced
  • Participates in investigations of Team Member injuries and workplace inspections and resolution of identified hazards


  • Current registration in good standing with CRNBC
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Two years nursing experience in gerontology
  • Three years Health Care Management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
