Director of Care, Registered Nurse

been highly successful in decreasing anxiety, enhancing self-esteem and managing BPSD’S (Behavioral & Psychological Symptoms of Dementia).

 Position & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the clinical management of the residence including oversight of Nurse Manager, RPN’s, PSW’s
  • Facilitates a compassionate, leading edge environment by ensuring that psychological, emotional and spiritual support Is provided to residents and families utilizing the R.E.S.T. Philosophy
  • HR Management: Nursing recruitment, orientation, payroll, scheduling, discipline for RN & PSWs along with supervisors, ongoing supervision, coaching/mentoring, and labour relations with union
  • Identify needs and makes recommendations for changes within the system and implement new processes to enhance clinical practice and resident outcome based on best practices and knowledge of Dementia Care
  • Coordinate with Social Worker re: total move in process of residents including assessments, care plans and move in paperwork
  • Community outreach with external stakeholders to raise profile of the home
  • Identify learning opportunities for staff and residents’ families; collaborate with Nurse Manager to develop and implement education sessions
  • Update monthly expenditures and maintain budget
  • Providing oversight to Director of Dietary; ensuring maintenance of standards governing food prep
  • Maintains nursing operations by initiating, coordinating and enforcing programs, and policies and procedures
  • Co-chairs weekly or as needed case conferences
  • Maintains RHRA standards and participates in accreditation; leads team to successful compliance
  • Is familiar with and ensures compliance with relevant provincial and federal acts and regulations
  • Assumes CEO duties as required in CEO’s absence

Qualifications:

  • Current Certificate of Competence as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses
  • Masters in Nursing Graduate or equivalent or Bachelors in Nursing with significant management experience
  • Management experience in Long Term Care and/or Retirement Homes
  • Expertise in Dementia Care, Gerontology and overseeing a Memory Care Program
  • Maintains hands on nursing clinical skills
  • Certification in Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and First Aid
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
