We are seeking a progressive Nursing Leader to join this RNAO Best Practice Spotlight Organization!

As a Nursing Leader with this RNAO Best Practice Spotlight Organization, you will be working together with the RNAO to implement three Best Practice Guidelines:

1) Preventing and Addressing Abuse and Neglect of Older Adults

2) Assessment and Management of Pain

3) Preventing Falls and Reducing Injuries from Falls

You will also be partnering with the Rotman School of Business to implement the “Ideas Program” for best practices in Palliative Care!

They are able to do this by fostering a partnership with their residents, tenants, caregivers and families by providing a safe, professional and caring community for seniors, based on traditional Christian values, while offering a continuum of care and support while respecting their individuality and dignity.


The Nurse Supervisor reports directly to the Director of Resident Care and is responsible for assisting in the management of Resident Care Services within the facility including: dealing with family and resident concerns, ongoing assessments, monitoring delivery of care, auditing, assisting in the planning, organizing, coordinating, implementing and continued evaluation of departmental policies and procedures and mentoring, supporting and coaching staff. The Nurse Supervisor will assist in the training and evaluation of nursing staff and promotes health and safety of work practices. They will be a role model for staff, be a team player and assist staff with hands-on direct care where necessary to ensure quality care to residents.

The Nurse Supervisor will ensure adherence to all respective legislation and applicable regulations including the Resident’s Bill of Rights, the Collective Agreement, the standards set by the College of Nurses of Ontario, and the Home’s mission statement and policies.

  • Plans, coordinates, implement and evaluates resident care, in keeping with provincial care, accreditation and accommodation standards
  • With the Director of Resident Care, develop and interpret the philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures and standards of services for the Nursing Department
  • Provide direct supervision to Registered Practical Nurses and Personal Support Workers in the Nursing Department
  • Participates in human resource functions such as recruitment, disciplining, and counseling as it relates to nursing staff
  • Maintain a good knowledge of the Ministry of Health Standards for Care and Services and protocols associated with such
  • Performs the role of the Charge Nurse (RN), in the event there is no RN available or in the building
  • Act as Co-Chairperson of the Infection Control Committee and will promote staff awareness of the philosophy and objectives of the Infection Control program
  • Attend conferences, seminars and workshops including the annual mandatory training and Resident Care Conferences
  • Assists the Director of Resident Care in ensuring that registered staff are trained and knowledgeable on the Nursing computer software and other nursing standards of practice like MOH Standards, RQI and CMI documentation
  • Comply with all regulations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act/WSIB. Ensure that all staff injuries are reported, investigated and documented in timely manner
  • Assists in the preparation for the yearly RQI and Accreditation
  • In the absence of the Director of Resident Care assume responsibility for the administration of the nursing department
  • Perform other such duties or responsibilities that may be delegated or assigned


  • Post – RN education, certification or degree in nursing administration and management, preference is BScN and/or business degree in health management, particularly long-term care, and further education in gerontology, geriatrics or rehabilitation.
  • Current Certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current membership with Gerontological Nursing Association (GNA) and Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) is desirable
  • CPR Certified
  • 3 years relevant experience in a long-term care facility including infection control, head nurse in chronic care or senior management in a health community agency.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to speak Dutch in addition to English would be an asset
  • Extensive knowledge of Infection Control Practices
  • Ability to work flexible hours dependent upon demands i.e. RQI / MOHLTC Inspections
  • Ability to work weekends and share a rotational weekend on-duty schedule
  • Required to work all 3 shifts on a consistent, rotational basis as required
  • Knowledge of computerized Care Plans essential
