RAI Coordinator, RPN, Whitby, Ontario

COMPANY OVERVIEW

Sunnycrest has achieved an “Accredited” status, as awarded by CARF every year since their first in 1984 and have been under the direction of the same owners since 1967. Through the years, Sunnycrest Nursing Home Ltd. has completed expansions to two, three-story wings accommodating 136 residents in basic ward (4 beds), semi-private (2 beds), and private (1 bed) rooms. They are proud members of the Ontario Long-Term Care Association.

Residents at Sunnycrest Nursing Home Ltd. enjoy a large wheelchair accessible horticultural patio and gardens as well as an on-site beauty salon, family room, a tuck cart and two large craft / activity rooms. They believe interest and stimulation is essential to everyday living and is fostered through life enrichment spiritual, recreational and rehabilitative programs.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a member of the management team the RAI Coordinator ensures that all RAI related assessments are completed within the allotted timelines and is submitted and accepted by CIHI quarterly. The RAI Coordinator is also responsible to provide education to all nursing staff with regards to RAI related materials.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop monthly RAI schedules for nursing department, provide copies to fellow department heads
  • Complete RAI/MDS coding/RAP’s/Care plan reviews as per the RAI schedule daily
  • Report any late/missed MDS assessments to Administrator, DOC,ADOC, and Quality Improvement Coordinator
  • Assign registered staff members one coding assessment every month to complete
  • Review assessments completed by registered staff members for potential errors. If errors noted review with the registered staff member, copy is given to the registered staff for future reference; another copy filed and kept in RAI Coordinators office.
  • Assign quarterly assessments to registered staff members monthly (pain, depression, continence etc..) follow up to ensure that all assessments have been completed within the allotted time frame , if not completed a letter is sent by the RAI Coordinator indicating which have not been completed with a due date. If still not completed by the due date will communicate this to DOC for progressive discipline.
  • Develop and maintain the new admission/significant change assessment schedule for RAI, inform all managers ARD and subsequent due dates for new admissions and significant change assessments
  • Submit RAI/MDS assessments to CIHI as per the pre-set out quarterly schedule, correct any rejected files and resubmit until all files for that allotted quarter have been successfully accepted by CIHI
  • Ensure all staff members in the home who are “coding” under RAI/MDS complete and pass their AIS competency testing annually
  • Report to the appropriate department head prior to deadline if any staff members have not yet completed and passed their competency testing
  • Create/disable user names and passwords for all staff members, and ensure information is sent to ADOC
  • Provide on-going technical support for POC as required
  • Modify software for point click care as needed
  • Complete bi-weekly and as necessary audits RE: PSW documentation in POC, provide general communications if errors/areas of concern noted

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Current RPN certificate of competency from the College of Nurses of OntarioComprehensive knowledge of evidence based clinical practices
  • Comprehensive knowledge of long-term care concepts and philosophies
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Previous experience in a long-term care setting an asset
  • Credentialed MDS Resident Assessment Coordinator
  • Policy and program development
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office
