                                                     Assistant Director of Care, Fort Frances, ON

Situated on Hwy #11-71, Fort Frances is conveniently located on the shore of Rainy Lake, at a border crossing neighbouring International Falls, MN. Fort Frances is centrally located to three major centers including Thunder Bay (347 km east) Winnipeg, Manitoba (370 km west), and Minneapolis, MN (475 km south).

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Director of Resident Care, the  Assistant Director of Resident Care is responsible for the supervision of staff and accountable for ensuring the delivery of resident-centered care and coordination of services to residents in the Home.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direct supervision to Registered Practical Nurses and Personal Support Workers in the Nursing Department.
  • Assist the Director of Resident Care in the management of human resources through a collaborative approach with corporate Human Resources, employees and unions.
  • Assist the Director of Resident Care in developing annual goals and objectives consistent with mission and strategic direction of the organization.
  • Assist with the development and evaluation of policies and proceduresensuring compliance with all legislated standards and regulations.
  • Implement best practices and continuous quality initiatives to ensure resident and staff satisfaction.
  • Act as a clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team.
  • Assist with overseeing the RAI program.
  • In collaboration with Corporate, ensures all mandatory education is completed.
  • Assist in assessing and evaluating the nursing service programs ensuring compliance with Provincial standards and legislations.
  • Conduct analysis and follow up of issues related to resident care, infection control, nursing quality and risk management programs.
  • Assist the Director of Resident Care in the development and administration of the annual operating and capital budget
  • Establish, participate and/or lead committees as required.
  • Identify ethical issues and collaborate with the Director of Resident Care for resolution.
  • Provide clinical information for Corporate IT decision support
  • In the absence of the Director of Care assume responsibility for the administration of the nursing department.
  • Carry out work assignments safely and is knowledgeable of and in compliance with relevant regulations, policies and procedures (ie.  Occupational Health and Safety Act).
  • Perform other such duties or responsibilities that may be delegated or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed RN or RPN (Preference given to RN)
  • Current registration with the Ontario College of Nurses
  • Demonstrated knowledge of nursing clinical care and gerontology
  • 3 years relevant supervisory experience, preferably in LTC
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of LTCHA and regulations and the College of Nurses standards,
  • Highly effective leadership, facilitation, presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships and work productively in a team environment
  • Ability to effectively manage a multi-disciplinary staff in an unionized environment
  • Advanced working knowledge of the internet, MS Office, specifically Excel and Word.  RAI-MDS 2.0 experience an asset
  • Knowledge of and experience with financial management and expenditure control preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
